Heart Shaped Film Mask
22 73 Share TweetLooking to put a little Love into your photos? Cutting a custom heart-shaped mask for your camera will frame everything you adore nicely. A simple mod that works on almost any film camera.
Want to add some heart to your photos or show a little love to your favorite things by framing them on film? Add a heart shaped film mask.

This is an easy tip you can use on almost any camera.
You will need:
- Opaque paper (look for glossy cardstock, like the adds you get in the mail)
- Scissors
- Tape (black electrical tape works great)
Step 1
Measure the current film mask you have. You’ll want to cut your piece of cardstock so it will fit into which ever camera you are using. Cut the cardstock leaving a little extra room – you can trim it down later if needed.
Step 2
Cut the heart shape out of your cardstock. Be sure to leave room at the edges.
Step 3
Tape your new film mask in place. If you are using a Holga or Diana+ with interchanging masks, you can tape your new heart shaped mask onto the existing mask before inserting it.

TIP: Tape your film mask in UPSIDE-DOWN. The picture is inverted by your lens. You want the heart facing the right direction in photos, so put it upside down in your camera. Shoot and develop as usual. Then show off what you love!
