Since Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching, I thought I would share this short and sweet but mostly goofy song I wrote for my significant other based on an analogue photograph I took of her. Cue the onslaught of corniness!
My girlfriend and I have been dating for over three years, yet most of that time has been spent apart living in different states. You see, we made the difficult decision to attend college in different cities, but we had no intention of splitting up. We’ve made the long distance relationship work over the past few years, as other couples tried and failed to do the same. I’m very proud of what we are able to do, and both of us know it will pay off some day!
Anyways, I like to play guitar and write short, simple songs, so here are the lyrics to a song I’d like to share, based on words that came to my mind while looking at the photograph above. It’s called If I Were Dreaming, and it goes like this:
If I were dreaming well I’d dream a dream where everything would seem to me / To be at once so happy just because I’m in your company / Kids would eat vegetables and like them more than chocolate or candy / Because the sky is bright and blue and school is cancelled constantly
And if I were a preacher well I’d preach about your freckles, face, and hair / And hands and feet and surely all of these would help to guide us there / But if some heathens came to fight I’d lead my flock to the front lines / We’d crush the non-believers and soon they’d come to worship your green eyes
And if I were the President I’d sign a law that would hereby decree / The White House is moving to the moon and it’s only bringing you and me / No more news reporters or Secret Service agents breathing down our necks / Just you and me and no one else to hear us when we’re having—
Just thought I’d let you know you’re one of a kind / If I were dead you’d bring me back to life / And even in that zombie state / I wouldn’t want to eat your brains / ‘Cause you’re the only girl who ever understood me
