An Unexpected L.A. Work Trip

1

Want to see the more relaxed side of L.A. and California? I went on a 2 1/2-week work trip where I got to see some lovely parts of Los Angeles without the hustle and bustle of Hollywood (well only half a day) and made the most of the Lomo blue skies and fantastic light.

Last year was pretty unusual for me travel-wise. My breaks usually consist of a maximum of two four-day city breaks a year. But last year was unbelievable! Back in February, I went on a very short two-day city break to Paris; on May we went to Florida then a short break in Cornwall was also on the cards. But none of them beat my most memorable travel escapade! I was fortunate enough to go on a work tip to L.A for 2 1/2 weeks.

I was fortunate enough to go on a work tip to L.A for 2 1/2 weeks. Now this was a great thing, but I only had about five days notice (very unprepared), but I knew one thing…take my cameras and make the most of the sun and lomo blue skies when you’re not working!

Luckily I was meeting a work colleague out there who I later convinced to buy her own camera after a visit to the L.A Lomo store and now she’s addicted! You can check out her shots here.

I have never been to L.A before and wasn’t sure what to expect. I’m not one for in-your-face-Hollywood so luckily we were based in El Segundo, near the beach. My friend knew that I loved Lomography so went all out taking me to places. I have to say that there wasn’t a spare moment in the schedule and I got to see an L.A that I wasn’t expecting!

We made a brief trip to Hollywood to check out the Lomo store (where I purchased an LC-Wide and met noe_arteaga who coincidentally just tweeted about my poppy panorama article…small world). Fitted in the Hollywood Walk of Fame stars and Mans Chinese Theater, then the “Hollywood” sign.

We got a bit drunk the night before and decided to play mini golf at Camelot, Anaheim the next day; not good when it’s boiling and you are hungover!

We checked out the Queen Mary at Long Beach…

We visited many beaches along the way, Redondo Beach pier, Huntington Beach, Orange County – surfers
at Venice Beach and Manhattan Beach, too many to remember!

But by far, my favourite was Santa Monica Pier and 3rd Street Promenade, I loved it and it’s a lomographer’s paradise! Fantastic colours, rides, and scenery…it’s one not to miss!

I live in LA and it's funny that I came across this article because when I woke up this morning I told my husband that we should go shoot in Santa Monica today. Glad you enjoyed the city! And great photos btw. I especially like the multiple exposure with the surfer. Very cool.
