Those unique three pagodas are perhaps the main tourist attraction near Dali old town and that’s on purpose!
Once upon a time, Dali was inhabited by dragons, so that three pagodas were built to deter the dragons. Those remarkable structures that were build during IX-th and X-th centuries are the most important destination in surroundings of Dali.
So, imagine the loooong way, made by the engineers from Xian, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. They came to guide the building process of the pagodas and 1200 years later we can enjoy visiting those structures that successfully survived several natural catastrophes and earthquakes.
Just at the entrance, one of the best pictures can be made, where the pagodas are being reflected in Juying Chi, which means (surprise!) “the Reflection Pond”.
Beware of “fakes” – a park with a single pagoda (which is built recently) is located very close to the Three Pagodas. At the time of writing the park was under construction, but we still could make several shots from inside :)
