Rich, warm colors and lovely skin tones are what you can expect from Lomo’s CN 100 35mm film. It’s fine grained, affordable, and begs for a sunny day!
Crazy color shifts, slide film, and XPRO all have their appeal, but I often want my subjects to speak out in a more natural way than the bright pink of Astia or the blues of Tungsten film. That, and the cheap cost of color negative film, caused me to shoot quite a lot of “plain old CN.”
I use several color negative films, including Fuji Superia, Kodak Pro Image, and Lomography CN. Each has a specific use, but I think the Lomography CN is my favorite for over-saturated color and good skin tones.
The grain is fine, as you would expect from an ISO 100 film. I particularly love to use it in open shade on sunny days, which makes everything look bright and beautiful without overdoing the contrast. And speaking of contrast — it’s a very nice amount of contrast for a negative film. You can get more with slide film, but not with this much exposure latitude.
For scanning purposes, the film curl is minimal to non-existent, true with most good color negative films.
So in summary, I highly recommend Lomography CN 100 for bright, rich color and warm, lovely skin tones.
