Built in the 1860s and paid for by a wealthy pen manufacturer, St. Augustine’s church in Edgbaston is one of the very few churches in England dedicated to St. Augustine of Hippo(!) The church sits on an island site within a conservation area, a short distance from the Hagley Road and is approached by a short straight road.

Now that the residential area has expanded around it, it’s quite well hidden from view and is a surprising find for most people. It’s certainly worth going slightly off the beaten track to find it, as it is a very impressive structure.
