A photo opportunity is one of those images that make everyone take their cameras out of their pockets, whether it is an analogue camera or a mobile phone. Cais das Colunas surely is one, I don’t think anyone can be indifferent to the beauty of this place!
Cais das Colunas is situated in one of Lisbon’s main squares, Praça do Comércio. “Cais” means “dock” and “colunas” means “columns”, and that says it all.
It used to be the main entrance in Lisbon for centuries. Nowadays, it is a scenic spot where tourists and city folks spend some leisure time while gazing at the Tejo River.
I lived all my life in Lisbon but I don’t have memories of this place because it was under reconstruction from 1997 to 2008. I’m so glad we got it back!
It is one of those places that make you fall in love with Lisbon. Lisbon has a special light, maybe because it reflects in the river.
From here you can see 25 de Abril’s Bridge and the other side of the river. There are always seagulls posing on top of the columns and they really help making this spot a photo opportunity! The boats going from one to another side of the river are the final elements that make this the perfect Lisbon postcard.
It is absolutely beautiful, you have to shoot it!
