Erika Grendelova, aka erikagrendel, hails from the Czech Republic and is one of Lomography Magazine’s new regular writers. Know more about her upcoming series, featuring her stories within pictures, after the break.
To become a writer is Erika’s dream since she was a child. Right now, she is studying for her PhD in a different field but her adoration for books, comics, illustrations, stories, and art in general has always been retained. Come early 2011, she got back to film photography. She has been writing articles about comics and art for Inspire, a Slovak magazine, for almost 4 years already. She also occasionally draws short comic series for various fanzines and newspapers.
“In all my approaches to art, a beautiful and haunting story behind every work of art is what fascinates me the most. And that story is usually something which you may really find everywhere. Gregory Bateson, an English anthropologist, said: “We think in terms of stories.” This brand new series will be focused on “stories behind and within pictures” and its connections not only with photography but also with some other art forms like comics, illustrations, or even films. This will be housed in the Analogue Lifestyle section and hopefully you can find it there twice a month. I’ll start with some introductory terms and famous names, which are linked to storytelling and photography as well. I do not want to overwhelm you with too many terms, so I’ll move to storytelling in particular pictures.” (erikagrendel)
The international Magazine team of Lomography is currently looking for dedicated writers who are interested in contributing articles (to any section) on a regular basis. Eager and interested? Read this call-out article and we’ll be waiting for your emails!
