I found the Portra 400 VC a great professional film from Kodak with strong colours and saturation. It’s now discontinued so get it while you still can!
I picked up a roll of Kodak Portra 400 VC with my last order from Lomography. The store boasted of a subtle x-Pro look, which I think is stretching it a bit, but it definitely does give nice strongly saturated colours.
With a rich colour palette, I think this film is brilliant for nature photography. I went out looking for some flowers and other colourful things to shoot and wasn’t disappointed with the results.
It also worked well with some close-up shots of a Moroccan lantern that my girlfriend had just received as a gift. It really caught the colours and brightness beautifully as the evening sun shone through it.
As it is designed as a portrait film, you would expect it to do well here and I think it does. A trip to the playground produced plenty of nice shots of the family.
This film was discontinued by Kodak over a year ago, so stocks may be dwindling and Lomography seems to be one of the few places that still has it available. Enjoy it whilst you can, but don’t worry when it is gone, as I still think its replacement Kodak Portra 400 is the best colour negative film on the market today.
The Kodak Portra 400 VC 35mm is a true professional`s choice. This portrait film yields great contrast and slamming colours, giving your shots a subtle x-pro look (without the x-pro)! See the whole range of colour negatives in our Shop.
