God afternoon! My name is zark and I own too many cameras! Here is my review of one of our favorites, the LC-A!
I buy too many cameras and also get gifted too many. They are all around my place. They are all different, with and without flash, with and without rangefinder, with and without exposure-meter. Some for indoor and some for outdoor use, old, new, big, small, made of plastic or metal, black or chrome.
Everytime I leave the house, I try to figure out which camera to take with me. The new one to try it out? A small and light one so I won’t carry something too heavy? An old eye-catching one to stand out in the crowd? A Lomography camera or something more serious? What which film is in what camera right now?
Agonizing questions! So the easiest and most elegant way to figure this out is to go back to the camera it all started with. If I’m in doubt, I’ll take my trusted LOMO LC-A. There’s always the right film in it, it’s suitable indoors and outdoors, daylight and nighttime. It fits into my smallest pocket. I’m never under or overdressed with my LC-A.
My LC-A was build 1985 and suffered quite a bit. It needed some “surgery” and also some maintenance. But do not fear! LC-A cameras are easy to repair. If you fail, just send them to LSI for piggies, or buy an LC-A+ from LSI to get warranty. My LC-A is six years younger than me. Since we have become so familiar I would like to know what my LC-A has done in the rest of her camera life. When I watched a documentary about the fall of the Berlin Wall recently, I spotted a man taking photos with an LC-A in the crowd. Maybe that was mine, who knows?
I know my LC-A to every last detail. I can recognize it by sound and feel. There´s a small scratch-mark on the lens, don´t know what it´s doing to my pictures. My LC-A feels like a body extension rather than a foreign body. Taking Photos with the LC-A makes me happy calms me down und let´s time flow. When I´m down, I take a photo. When everything is getting too much, I take a photo. When I have to wait for the bus, I take a photo. I take a photo too when I´m happy and I feel good, either on my everyday s walk to the university or to work or on a party or holidays. My LC-A is with me all the time.
Even though the LC-A has to share the place with a lot of other cameras, I’ll never leave the house without it!
