In a city that never sleeps, the quality of late night food in New York is definitely higher then most cities. A favorite downtown, late night stop for a much-needed slice of pizza is Artichoke Pizza.
With its signature ‘A Christmas Story’ leg lamp in the window, this relatively new pizza place is becoming a staple for late night eats. There is usually a line out the door during peak times at the original Artichoke location on 14th Street, but they keep the wait entertaining by blasting anything from Journey to Frankie Valle.
The menu is super simple with four different slices: Margherita, Crab, Sicilian, and Artichoke. The namesake slice is like eating amazing, creamy artichoke dip on bread, which is why it is my favorite. But if you are not in the mood for something as heavy, the Sicilian is equally tasty with a simple tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil. Be warned: they reheat the slice for you and it comes out of the oven scalding hot. Show some restraint and let it cool or you will burn the roof of your mouth.
