My Review on Fuji Velvia 50 RVP

The Fuji Velvia 50 is great for nature and landscape photography. But when it comes to Lomography and shooting like you don’t care, this film can really tune in some fine colors especially when cross-processed. Expect to see a face full of jaundice (yellowish skin) and lights that are made up of greenish delights!

I used a lot of Fuji Velvia 50 RDP in medium format for the past two or three years. It’s one of my favorite film since it yields a very low ISO. Having this low ISO but with the use of a medium format, I tried to used it with Lubitel 166B, Diana F+, and Holga. They all yield the same colors — from blue-ish to greenish to unpredictable results if cross-processed — except that of course, the Lubitel can handle a slight perfection when it comes to focusing and correct exposure. But for the fun part, I love this film bit by bit.

Fuji Velvia 50 RDP can radically give some fantastic photos like it’s three-dimensional. The colors will automatically pop out even though if it’s not cross-processed. This film also has a warming effect, as it produces an accurate gray scale composure, it enhances the film’s color saturation which can be unlikely to take portraits of people if you’re an addict to skin colors because it can ruin someone’s face.

This film can also give out extreme details and fine grains. I prefer Velvia 50 than its brother, the Velvia 100, because I don’t like the magenta and pinkish colors in the whole picture. A slightly warming yellows and greens can be all good for me that is why I prefer to shoot with Velvia 50.

Conclusion: Shoot with Velvia 50 in medium format. It’s an unlikely approach to taking pictures but as always, be surprised with the results. Use it with your toy cameras like your Diana F+ or Holga so it can yield fantastic colors. Shoot under the sun and grab a Colorsplash Flash when nighttime comes! Don’t forget to remove the lens cap before shooting! :)

Fuji Velvia 50 RVP 120 is known for its precise modulation, vivid colour reproduction and excellent image quality. This is the outstanding film for nature, fashion, products, interiors, and artwork photography. See the whole range of colour slides in our Shop.

Interesting camera, but I wouldn't want it. Too dark.
