Photography has been described as a time-stopping device, something that “freezes” an action. This moment on-pause is the most salient; all conversation about the picture will tend to pin down the beauty of that second. Celeste Ortiz’s photos make us think of something else. A sense of continuation.
Editing pictures with image manipulation software or a mobile app is not unheard of. An alienation of photos by needle and thread, on the other hand, is an intricate process. Los Angeles-based artist and photographer Diane Meyer has gained instant fame for her embroidered analog photos. In this interview, she talks about adding a new dimension to pictures as well as her source of inspiration and other projects.
Brooklyn-based photographer Miria Maciągiewicz is no stranger to creating pictures with mysterious, ethereal moods. She recently tested the Daguerreotype Achromat 2.9/64 Lens, producing these painterly, nearly abstract flowers. She answers a few questions on the experience in this interview.
One Christmas, David Townsend was given the Konstruktor by his wife. It sparked an idea in his head, taking inspiration from Jack Lowe's Lifeboat Station project and his love for photography. He built and beautifully customised the Konstruktor and has just embarked on his own long term analogue project, because a camera is for life, not just for Christmas. Learn more about his project in this interview.
Our new LomoAmigo Acey Slade has a pretty cool job. He's a touring bassist for musicians like Joan Jett & the Blackhearts. In this interview, Acey talks about his favorite cameras and a mysterious disposable camera lying around his band's tour bus—the developed pictures were nothing like his bandmates imagined!
