if the mystery product was used to make this short, then I don't think it can be 8mm because the frame rate is different. 8mm would would produce something like this but this clue looks more like a stop motion to me...

  17. panchoballard
    panchoballard ·

Definitely stop motion. I think the term 'Super 8' is being used as a generic term for a handheld, budget movie camera that uses film. If it was some kind of movie camera it's bound to be 35mm - I can't see Lomography making something that takes 8mm film unless they were manufacturing their own film too.

I'm intrigued to see what it will be though. Maybe something clockwork, where you wind the film with a handle at a constant rate and then put the resulting frames into a software package to make a movie. That's what I'm thinking anyway. The work on the spinner may have led to something like this. Very excited...

  31. wzzk
    wzzk ·

@arcabdiobuendia : lomography is not about the old cameras only. they have to sustain the whole project somehow, but it would not be possible by re-producing and selling existing old cameras only. most people want to see something new and different after a while. this is why they produced the actionsampler and the other cameras. they may be produced in China but all of them were offered new features evertime.
probably I will not buy this product. anyway I'm glad to know there is something fresh and having new features.
it will attract more people and make them related to lomography. no need to hate, get over it.

Its not a super8 camera, the only place in Europe to develop Super 8 is in Germany and costs about £100 a roll. It will be some kind of 35mm supersampler able to rinse a whole film

  41. alex34
    alex34 ·

I second it not being a super8 camera. Not economical, and not technologically within the grasp of the production line. i vote a recycled supersampler.

I think the new camera can either shoot 3, 8 or 10 shots a second. It's a supersampler type set up, probably 4 shots per frame. So that would be either 48sec at 3fr, 18sec at 8fr or 14sec at 10fr. Either that or it's the number of lens you have per frame and you you can hand crank the film through. That would be very interesting, potentially having 360 frames on a 36 exposure reel... quality would suck at such as small image size. 360fr at 12fr/sec would give you 30sec of recording :-)

  45. panchoballard
    panchoballard ·

Hmm, two points about this video. If you view it on You Tube it's tagged with 'lomography'. Also, to stress a point made earlier in this thread, at the end it says 'rodado en 35mm', which I presume means it was made on 35mm film.

I'm convinced this video was made using the new camera. Very narrow format so maybe it shoots on a third of the film as other people have suggested.
