Bars and Pubs: Welcome to Singapore’s Drinking Belt

Without a doubt, Boat Quay is one of the better-known destinations for bars and pubs in Singapore. Yes, it’s touristy, but who cares when you’re having a great night out with your BFFs?

Historically, Boat Quay was where Singapore’s most important trading offices were situated. Back then, bumboats lined up along the river bank and coolies were seen scurrying precariously along wooden planks to unload their goods. Commodities such as tin, rubber, steel, coffee, and rice were just some of the stuff traded there.

While it is no longer used as an aquatic hub, it still serves as an important venue for many people working in the vicinity – a great watering hole. With more than a dozen bars and pubs along Singapore’s river front, you will be spoiled for choice.

Here are some photos of the pubs and bars that you will find as you walk around the first block of Boat Quay. Located at the start of Boat Quay, The Penny Black Pub is often the meeting point for a great night out (or pub crawl).

Right next to The Penny Black is Harry’s Bar, which has many outlets around this little island country.

Further down from Harry’s Bar is the Red Dot Brewhouse, which is Singapore’s first local owned, independent commercial microbrewery.

If you walk around the back of the first block, you’ll see Molly Malone’s Irish Pub across the street.

One of the more interesting bars to literally cool off is the Eski Bar, where the temperature is at a freezing minus 4 degrees! The plus side is that you don’t have to worry about your beer getting warm!

Yet, in spite of how busy the place can be, you can still find your own space for some self reflection at Boat Quay – just like this guy here.
