The Opening of the New Oasis Store on Argyll Street, London

Oasis stores seemed to almost disappear off the UK high streets a few years ago and Leeds (my home town) certainly has not had a store of its own since mid 2009. When I was last in London however, I was lucky enough to be there on the opening day of a brand new Oasis store on Argyll Street.

Oasis is, for all intents and purposes, an average priced chain store, selling women’s clothing and accessories to the masses here in the UK. I was sad when branches began to close down a few years ago (this was presumably due to the recession) however, as they do some great accessories – handbags, hats, that kind of thing. Walking to the Lomography Gallery Store in Soho last weekend, my friend and I stumbled upon the opening of a new shop on Argyll Street (somewhere between Oxford Circus tube station and Carnaby Street).

They had made the entire street feel like an Oasis-themed festival, with a candy floss machine outside, ladies giving out flyers about the new store (with discount vouchers and competitions inside) and oh so many balloons!

They had even gone as far as to employ a lady to sit in the store window all day and evening knitting (I think maybe this was to advertise their new knitwear ranges, but I can’t be sure!).

Once inside, it was also very exciting as they have an area outside the changing rooms with iPads for the general public to use whilst waiting for friends and family members. And many of the tills at this new store are simply iPads with a remote bar code scanning device attached.

All in all, I was really happy to get to see this lovely new store on its first day of opening, especially with all its new-fangled technology and balloons. And of course, no trip to Oasis would be complete without trying out and purchasing some accessories.
