The Panorama Terrace at the Park Inn in Berlin is one of the most wonderful places to chill out in Berlin while having a drink or seeing the sun fading slowly behind the horizon.
This terrace is on the 39th floor of one of the biggest hotels in Berlin, the Park Inn, just in front of the TV Tower in Alexanderplatz. To get as high as those 153 meters, you first have to take the lift from the lobby, then climb a few staircases up to the terrace. To make you feel as though the steps are fewer than they really are, you’ll find a few pictures of Thomas Dold, a man who climbed all of the stairs of the Empire State Building or the Park Inn (among other skyscrapers) in record times.
When you reach the top, you have to pay a 3€ ticket which really is worth its price. Once on the terrace, you can lay down on a few deck chairs and relax. You can buy something to drink (I don’t know the price, but it is probably quite expensive) and look at the sights.
From that height, Berlin’s buildings look like a little layout of the city that it really is. Tiny cars, trams, and buses run through the streets. Nevertheless, this sensation contrasts with the imposing Fernsehturm (the TV tower) just in front of you, in the middle of Alexanderplatz. It seems like you can just extend your arm and touch it. Probably, it is the only place in Berlin from where you can see the Fernsehturm face to face.
When its time for the sunset, you can sit down and enjoy the wonderful show as the sun slowly hides on the horizon. If you plan on staying there after the sunset, don’t forget to wrap up, as at such a height, the wind can be really cold.
Although every year, more and more tourists frequent this terrace, you can always find there some Berliners chilling out and trying to see their city from a different point of view.
It is undoubtedly, one of my favorite places in Berlin.
