Padmanadi Vegetarian Restaurant (Edmonton)

In a land of meat-eating cowboys and oil rig roughnecks, you might not expect to find a restaurant whose claim to fame is their lack of animal products.

This tiny restaurant opened in the middle of Edmonton’s Chinatown in 2002, and serves a fusion of Indonesian/Chinese/Thai/Indian food that would satisfy any vegan. The family that owns the restaurant desires to promote the benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle to all, and they claim that their focus is on making friends, not money.

The first thing to catch my lomo-attention when we walked in to the room (it really is just a single dining room), were the many pictures of happy customers, printed in the standard 4×6 lomowall format, stuck to the walls all around the dining area. There is also some interesting art and many religious statues all about the room.

I’m a meat-loving Canadian, but would not pass up the opportunity to devour a Veggie Kong Pow Chicken or the Lo-Hon Vegetable Deluxe. The prices are VERY reasonable, and the service is extremely friendly and quick. There is some parking on the front street, and plenty of parking out back.

Don’t forget to buy your I Love Padmanadi t-shirt on the way out!
