This summer I discovered boxes of slides my parents had shot during my childhood. Most of these were photos I have never seen. It was like discovering a box of long lost treasures!
This year, when I went home for the summer, I had to go through the drawers looking for some documents. I stumbled upon boxes of old slides my parents had shot during my childhood. Since it’s been ages since we had a functioning slide projector at home, many of these photos were completely new to me. I made it my project to bring them back to Paris and scan them as an early mother’s day gift.
After many long hours with the scanner (it’s a love-hate thing that we have…) I was very happy and touched by what I had found. All these moments from the past were all showing up on the screen and surprising me, leaving me overtaken with emotion.
There was the initial cultural shock, due mostly to the questionable fashion of the 80’s and early 90’s:
The surprise of discovering that I was SUCH a poser!
Of course, my brother and I wrote the book on the art of posing!
The sweet moments with the family, I love the tenderness of these photos (it all seemed so easy).
All these slides made my heart full of love for my family. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily stresses, and everybody knows that no one can drive you crazy like your family. But all the love and tenderness present in these photos reminds you of what is really important. That’s one of the things I love about photography!
