Having Fun with the SuperSampler!

2011-10-03 1

The Supersampler is a fun camera that will take you right back to the core of Lomography!

My favorite (and first) mult-ilens camera is a SuperSampler that I bought used from another lomographer. The SuperSampler is a truly enjoyable little camera. It features four lenses that are, in difference to an ActionSampler, arranged in a row. In result, your final picture is sliced up into four upright stripes of lomographic deliciousness.

One of my favorite aspects of the SuperSampler is its ability to shoot at two different rates: it will take a sequence of four pictures either within 2 seconds or within 0.2 seconds. This is great because that way you can either capture a movement or make an abstract pattern.

Of course, the SuperSampler really pays off when you want to make movement visible or capture an action sequence. The possibilities are endless: photograph a moving subject, move the camera, photograph a moving subject WHILE moving the camera, get close, show different parts of your subject in one frame…just let your imagination run free and play! The four lenses have a fixed focus making this a very spontaneous little camera. Also, there is no viewfinder so you’re pretty much forced to “shoot from the hip” and “don’t think, just shoot!”

There’s one downside when it comes to this otherwise amazing camera: it needs a lot of light. On a really sunny day you may use 200 ISO film, but as a general rule, I suggest to always use film that’s a little more light sensitive than you’d think you need.

When bringing theSuperSampler, you can always be sure to get people’s attention and a few looks of disbelief when you tell them it’s an actual camera that takes real pictures.

The SuperSampler, the queen of multilensed cameras, is now in black. It takes four sequential panoramic shots on a single, action-packed 35mm photo. See all SuperSampler colours and designs in our Shop!

A Hunt for Curios and Wonderful Patterns

Some photographers have an instinct for the unique. Whereas others aim to fashion the ordinary into a singular picture, these hunters are obsessed with what cannot be found elsewhere. They prize an exclusive scoop on architectural patterns, artisan quirks, and objects that stick out of an everyday scene. And when the photographers find them, they will twist and turn to get the most flattering angle. Only right for curiosities that beg to be shared.
