MV Doulos (Bacolod)

2009-02-27 6

MV Doulos is a big ship. A two years younger than the Titanic, this is the oldest ship that still crosses and navigates the ocean all around the world.

MV Doulos is a big ship that circumnavigates the world with its books, bringing knowledge, help and hope. I was surprised two days ago when a friend asked me to go over Doulos. I asked where the hell is that, and she brought me into this place. It was docked in Bredco Port. It’s a big white ship which has an entrance fee of 10 Pesos. Upon entrance, there are books sold in varying costs from a dollar to five a-piece. You can locate yourself though, from drama to inspirational to children, you name a genre they got it. It’s a big bookstore - in a big ship!

Since most are bargain books, I found myself buying a book for five years old. I am going to give them to my nephews, actually. Well, MV Doulos also has a cafe. For refreshment purposes, you can visit this place after you’re done shopping within the book shop area.

Well, it’s quite a nice experience with this one. Shopping books over a big ship overlooking the sea.

The World According to Herr Willie: Lake Toba

Talking about the creation of the world. A big bang, meteors hitting planets, ice age and tectonic breakdancing. The world is an incredible start up and the landscapes, that were created through the elements and time. Sometimes your eyes can still see this amazing process in a timelapse. Such a mystical place is Lake Toba in North Sumatra. Or as the locals call it: Danau Toba.

Black and White Photography: The Forms of the World

Colors may be amped to look unreal, like nothing of this world. Shots may be doubled, cross-processed, post-processed, mixed up into collages. The possibilities are infinite, yet some photographers still prefer black and white. Even in 2016, it is an ode to classic values of precision and balance. Light and shadow must be one pleasing dance. And just like in a well-choreographed piece, forms are obvious or playing coy. It all depends on how you're looking.

    Photographic Pairs

When a photographer encounters a pair, an instinct rushes in, "Is this a special, intimate moment I just stumbled on?" Or else, those accidents of two objects, two birds, two swaying plants camping together especially for your photo. This might not be the case, but it's still a pleasant thing for patterns and quirks to find their way into an everyday shot.

Celestial Bodies by Rachel and Eleanor Hardwick, Chrissie White

The young photographer friends set out to America’s West to reconnect with nature. It all began as an individual documentation of the world around them and organically formed into a collaborative project over the course of their trip. The result is a self-published art book that explores the relationship between nature and their bodies.

    Trusty Bags for Trusty Cameras

We spend copious amounts of time stalking camera forums and researching specifications that "hunter" seems a more fitting term than "collector." And yet, when the time comes to pack all this game—the new or thrillingly ancient cameras—we DIY padding on the spot. (Guilty of trying to avoid the unappealing gear bag from the department store.) Last year though we stocked up on camera bags that are as cool as they are protective. Here are some of them.
