Out to Sea (the Bournemouth edition)

Who needs sunshine to enjoy a day at the beach? I just grab my Diana F+, some film, a hot coffee, and head to somewhere with sand, sea, and photo opportunities…

Bournemouth is a seaside resort town on the south coast of England. A lot of people make jokes about it because so many older people go there to retire but there are plenty of younger people lured by the sand and the surf to even up the balance.

I love to visit seaside-y towns out of season, when I have them virtually to myself. The extra elbow room and slower pace lends itself rather nicely to film photography, plus the light is usually less harsh and easier to work with.

Even on the greyest and coldest of days you can find lots of colour (and if you are lucky, a cheery little piggy) to give your camera some entertainment; my Diana loves colouful things.

You feel less inclined to disobey the signs in the colder months, too.

I always imagine the saltiness of the sea to be very akin and in tune with the chemicals used in film photography. Not very scientific, I know, but the sea on film just feels right somehow. Don’t you think?

The Diana F+ is a new twist on the ‘60s classic cult camera. Famous for its dreamy and soft-focused images, the Diana F+ is now packed with extra features such as panorama and pinhole capabilities. Available in our Online Shop.
