The Promenade Plantée goes from Bastille, a major landmark in Paris to the Bois de Vincennes, the huge park and forest on the east side of Paris. You will enjoy a romantic walk on the path of a former railway line, surrounded by old and recent buildings, lot of flowers, plants and trees, calm and tranquility. A perfect place for a romantic walk in the afternoons of fall!
There are a lot of places in Paris where you can have nice and beautiful walk, but it is quite rare that these places are as peaceful as the Promenade Plantée. Because it is elevated, built on an old railway where traffic ceased in 1969, it is distant from the noise of the cars. And because you are surrounded by plants and trees, changing colors during the seasons, it feels like you leave the agitation of the city as soon as you climb the stairs of one of the several access points.
You’ll begin at Bastille, a classic Paris landmark. The big place has the July Column in the middle and the Bastille Opera on its side. It’s a good place, full of history, to begin your romantic walk!
From Bastille, the first part of the Promenade is above the famous Viaduc des Arts – a place known for its art shops. On both sides you can see different architectural styles of buildings. There are plenty of benches where you can sit and enjoy a moment with your love and your camera!
Towards the East, you’ll go literally through buildings, cut in two by the Promenade, and over a wood footbridge which overhangs the Reuilly Garden. The walk will lead you to the Bois de Vincenne, its lake where you can rent a small boat and finish this romantic afternoon!
