Blue is my favorite color and naturally, my favorite photos have a lot of blue in them. Here’s a selection of my best blues.
Blue calls to mind feelings of calmness or serenity. It is often described as peaceful, tranquil, secure, and orderly.
There is so much color all around us, and I don’t think we cherish it enough. Color affects us in many ways even when we don’t think about it. As a lomographer, you already know that you’re almost sure to like a photo with lots of gorgeous, crazy colors in it!
Blue conveys importance and confidence, without being somber or sinister, hence the blue power suit of the corporate world and the blue uniforms of police officers. Long considered a corporate color, blue, especially medium and darker blues, is associated with intelligence, stability, unity, and conservatism. Blue is the overwhelming “favorite color.”
The color of ocean and sky, blue is perceived as a constant in our lives. As the collective color of the spirit, it invokes rest and can cause the body to produce chemicals that are calming; however not all blues are serene and sedate.
Electric or brilliant blues become dynamic and dramatic, an engaging color that expresses exhilaration. Some shades or the overuse of blue may come across as cold or uncaring.
Fun blue fact:
Blue is commonly used in the Western hemisphere to symbolize the male gender in contrast to pink used for females. However, in the early 1900s, blue was the color for girls (as it had traditionally been the color of the Virgin Mary in Western Art) and pink was for boys (as it was akin to the color red, considered a masculine color).
