Underwater Boxing in 1939

2011-09-12 1

How do you make something as menacing as boxing insanely hilarious? A group of crazy guys with unbelievable lung capacities answered by taking it underwater in 1939.

“Just add water.” We all know by now that this advice works for a myriad of things—including boxing.

Yes, you read that right! Photographer Flip Schulke had a vision in mind when he photographed boxing legend Muhammad Ali in 1961 while training in Miami. The image of Ali in a fierce fist-fight stance while underwater would become one of the boxer’s most breath-taking photograph ever.

But nevermind Ali and his underwater bad-assery; a group of crazy London guys with seemingly inhuman lung capacities already thought of mixing boxing and water to create something downright crazy and unbelievably timeless. Not today, not in the last 10 years, but way back in 1939.

Watch the insanely hilarious boxing match that took place at Wembley Empire Pool in London. And take a closer look at the cameraman!

If, by chance, you’re looking for vintage boxing photos, we’ve also got that covered here!

What do you think of this underwater boxing match from the yester-decades? Tell us with a comment below!

    A Color Remix

It's human nature to be restless and imaginative. The real may be interpreted as what one sees or how one sees something. For the daydreamer, a scene from nature transforms into a canvas. Suddenly a field makes room for chemical coloring, all those anachronistic streaks that somehow look right. Or else, those beautiful colors amplified or subdued to their most pictorial shades. All in the world of trial-and-process film photography.

How to Develop Photos on Stone in a Darkroom

I have always loved the idea of seeing my photos on stone and other natural materials. So, a few months ago, I began googling how it could be done. This is how I discovered (and fell in love with) liquid emulsion. Liquid emulsion is photographic emulsion which you can melt down and paint on any surface. You can then expose an image and develop it using traditional darkroom chemicals. In this article, I would like to explain the process a little, so that if you are also interested in giving this fun process a go, you can!

And some folks, like me, go to hidden places with an own narrative. Like the car cemetery of Båstnäs, deep within the forrest maze, where Sweden touches Norway
