I was born in South East Portland, Oregon, grew up in South West Portland, now live in North East Portland (only two more quadrants to go ;) ). I started shooting pictures when I was about 6 or 7 with some ridiculously awesome toy cameras my mom bought my brothers and me during christmas of that year (1990 or '91) But, after that I took a rather long hiatus from the realm of image making and decided to be an athlete for the greater portion of my short life and I now ride my fixed gear bike religiously because of my need for movement. I started shooting again the year I graduated from high school (2003) because of an english teacher with a great passion for the visual arts. I never had any actual training until I started going to college, though, and by that time I had pretty much mastered how to take a "perfectly" exposed image. NOW: I play with aperture, focal length, depth of field and lighting techniques to build images the way I wish to convey them. I try to leave nothing to chance, control-freak that I am. However, I have had some fairly happy accidents along the way and I now feel I have fully grasped what it is to fail and to succeed. To that end I present myself as Jakob Ferrier, Lomographer, Photographer, and lover of both analogue and digital formats.
