Okay, this has to be one of the most random coincidences in history. Also, I’m probably 12 years too late with this discovery, but I’m excited about it, so please bear with me.
I was researching for a location-article I’m going to write for the London City Guide, about Brunswick Centre. I somehow ended up there last time I was in London without any idea what that place was or that it even existed, and I didn’t even think about it much until now. I was flipping through my London albums the other day, remembered the place and thought it’d be a great lomolocation to share. Of course I’m not the first person to think this place is quite extraordinary, so I wasn’t surprised to find out that it appears in a couple of movies and stuff. And in Mansun’s music video for “Wide Open Space” was filmed there.
So now you have to know that I used to LOVE Mansun (actually still do), and “Wide Open Space” was one of my favourite songs (still love it!). I’m sure I must have seen the video back then, but I have no recollection of it whatsoever. To my diappointment I had to find out, this is the only Mansun video not to be found on the entire internet… or rather, there is one, but, as youtube informs me, “this video is not available in your country”. Bummer.
But, as lazy sunday nights go, I ended up watching the other Mansun videos… and when watching “Negative”, my eyes went all wide: Is that an LC-A that creepy guy is pulling out of his pocket at 2:46?!
I’m pretty sure it is!
You may all laugh at me now and tell me you’ve known this for ages, the single was released in 1998 after all. I’m just so excited about this right now, I dug out my Mansun CDs and had to share this.
And of course I still haven’t written a single word for my location article… And I’m still looking for the official “Wide Open Space” video, if you know where to find it, please point me in the right direction!
