Making New Furry and Feathered Friends

Once you set one foot in Regent's Park (or any other park in central London for that matter) they're already there, watching you. An army of squirrels and pigeons watching your every move, analysing whether you might have some delicious food to share with them. And "share" in this case doesn't necessarily mean you agree so protect your food well, and have your camera ready!

Tippelsberg, Bochum – A Great View Over the Ruhr

Calling the Tippelsberg in Bochum a "mountain“ is a bit of an exaggeration – but even with a height of only 150 meters, it still offers a great view over the Ruhr area. Follow me as I visit one of Germany's oldest tourist attractions.

A Bit of a Different Museum

A park that looks like a garden in some places and like a wildlife sanctuary in others, massive modern brick building appearing out of nowhere behind some trees, artworks by Cézanne, Matisse and Schwitters among a mix of ancient sculptures of the Khmer and from China – believe it or not, but you'll find this unique mix at Museum Insel Hombroich in Neuss, Germany.

    Idstein historical town center

Idstein is a small town in Hesse, about 20 minutes from Wiesbaden. The most famous landmark is probably the Hexenturm („Witches' Tower“), but Idstein has a beautiful historical town center with a large number of very old timber-frame houses.

    Börkhauser Feld

Börkhauser Feld used to be a field, right around the corner from where I grew up. Actually, I could see it from my bedroom window. We used to play there as kids, and it looked beautiful when the whole field was bright yellow with rapeseed flowers.

Public transport in Wuppertal is a unique experience, and also quite an adventure, especially if you're scared of heights. To get in and out of the swaying carriages of the Schwebebahn („floating train“) takes a bit of strong nerves but you'll be rewarded with a fun ride and (more or less) exclusive views into people's backyards – keep your camera ready!
