Fuji 800 -- Let it expire!

I was cleaning out the fridge when I found a sad little roll of Fuji 800 in the back. Four years past it’s prime doesn’t seem to old. Besides it was in the fridge so it should be great! Right?

So I took the film out of the fridge and placed it into my camera bag and… promptly forgot all about it. It sat there for another several months going in and out of the car and in and out of the sun. Face it, with my lomo lc-a+ I can shoot 100 speed film in the dark and it comes out great. So why bother with expired 800. After all I didn’t really like Fuji 800 anyway as it always seemed to come out really flat. The blacks were never black. It was never punchy.

Then I found myself between film. I was fresh out of film and I had ordered some xpro 200 and redscale 50-200; however, it hadn’t yet arrived. So that little roll of expired Fuji 800 made its way into my Lomo LC-A+. Loaded I had little to no faith in the film so I just shot anything that came to mind for no reason other than to burn through the roll.

Today I got the film back from the lab and I’m amazed! The photos were a little punchy. There was little grain, and the colors really popped. I had never been so happy with cheap 800 film before today. I guess that it needs to age and expire a little bit, like blue cheese, before it really comes to life. So let it expire!
