Parliament square, Demonstration, Tblissi, Georgia Georgia is one of the Caucasian countries, that wants to losen the Russian grip on the Region. After the velvet revolution a few years back US-educated President Saakashvilli took over the reign from former SSSR minister of foreign affairs Shevardnadse, who still is a legend to many. After the change, democracy developed quite well and it is said, that in terms of media and freedom of speech Georgia is a good example for the whole Eastern hemisphere. But the economic situation remains complicated, because the country is depended on Russian gas and electricity and even more so on the payments of fellow countrymen working in Russia. I have the impression, that the Georgians are quite impatient and want to have an instant improvement of their social and monetary situation. Therefore the situation is quickly on fire and things could easily get out of control. In the end of September 2007 president Saakashvilli imprisoned a former minister and ally of him, who accused him of murder. This guy founded his own party and wanted to rise again from the ashes as a phoenix. The charges for sentencing him were corruption and blackmailing. The people and the opposition, on the other hand, thought that the president is abusing his powers to get rid of an opponent. The outcry was massive and on September 28th there was a demonstration in front of the parliament. The biggest opposition parties called for the people and the people came. The whole square was packed with crowd and they even climbed onto monuments and waved their flags. As so did I, hence it was the very best view on the scenery. Beforehand some even feared, that there is something happening like a counterrevolution and Saakashvilli is casted away. But nothing alike. The people demonstrated and the media in the west didn´t even take notice of it.

  • Perutz 100 Chrome very very very expired

    shared by freshmeat_omd on 2014-03-19

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm......

  • Big Air Package (2013)

    shared by gepo1303 on 2016-02-06

I scanned last week some forgotten film negatives . Found some great pictures from a Christo art-installation. . Big Air Package is the latest project from artist Christo installed at the Gasometer Oberhausen in Germany and was on view from March 16 to December 30, 2013. . Big Air Package is the largest ever inflated envelope without aid of a skeleton and reaches 90 meters high, with a diameter of 50 meters and a volume of 177,000 cubic meters. The sculpture, which is installed inside the former gas tank, was made from 20,350 square meters of semitransparent polyester fabric and 4,500 meters of rope. The inflated envelope is 90 meters high and 50 meters in diameter. It has a total weight of 5.3 tons and a volume of 177,000 cubic meters. Big Air Package can be experienced from the outside and inside. Airlocks allow visitors to enter the package, which is self-supporting and kept upright by two air fans creating a constant pressure of 27 pascal (0.27 millibar). Big Air Package is the largest ever inflated envelope without a skeleton. Illuminated through the skylights of the Gasometer, the work of art is a cathedral of air, creating a diffused light throughout the interior, muffling the usual sounds and thus generating an atmosphere of silence and tranquility. The Gasometer was built in 1928/29 to store the blast furnace gas that is generated as a by-product of the industrial processing of iron ore. It is one of the largest gas tanks in the world, 117 meters (384 feet) high by 68 meters (223 feet) in diameter.

  • Kolumba

    shared by gepo1303 on 2013-06-23

Kolumba is the art museum of the Archdiocese of Cologne, originally founded in 1853. Since 2004, the museum has borne the name of its new location amidst the ruins of the late Gothic parish church of St Kolumba, thus providing a spiritual home to the collection. A triad of place, collection, and architecture, it allows the visitor to experience two millennia of western culture in a single building. Comprising art from late antiquity to the very present, the whole ensemble is imbued with a still reverberating sense of history - visibly intensified through its distinctive architecture. The modern building is a harmonious combination designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor (2007) to merge both the Gothic ruins of St Kolumba and Böhm's chapel »Madonna in the Ruins« (1950). with the unique archaeological excavation site (1973-76). Kolumba has been aptly termed »a museum of contemplation in which there is an ongoing dialogue between past and present« (Sarah McFadden, Art in America).

  • Skógafoss

    shared by gepo1303 on 2014-05-15

Skógafoss (pronounced [ˈskou.aˌfɔs]) is a waterfall situated on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded seaward (it is now at a distance of about 5 kilometres (3.1 miles) from Skógar), the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating together with some mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland. The Skógafoss is one of the biggest waterfalls in the country with a width of 25 metres (82 feet) and a drop of 60 m (200 ft). According to legend, the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. The legend continues that locals found the chest years later, but were only able to grasp the ring on the side of the chest before it disappeared again. The ring was allegedly given to the local church. The old church door ring is now in a museum, though whether it gives any credence to the folklore is debatable.
