Making the railway aside the cliff was another option for Japanese Army's engineers. All the wood that be used to build the bridges and be used as the sleepers were cut from the jungle beside the railway.
Many of the wood were still fresh and not dry enough for being a post. That caused many hundreds mortal accidents.
