Me versus the Handpickers!

This one above? This is the one I loved from my last round. I used it for my SoLocations Bike Route piece, and it came out better than I could have hoped. It’s an old, defunct fuel station along the route, still in town, but there’s very little commercial at that end anymore. Everything is still there, though, and I need to head that way and burn another roll or two in the near future. So much to capture there.

But not so much on that one for the handpicked photos. They picked four other ones (really, I’m flattered) from the same set of uploads, including one I really do like. But it’s interesting what we value versus what other people value.

It’s the same for how we see ourselves and how other people see us, no?

I think a lot of what LSI does is random in selecting Lomohomes and photos. They have renamed articles I submitted and corrected my English in them, much of it for the worse. It was someone in Austria correcting English. I would never mess with anyone's German. Recently, they are better about this, though.

They seldom seem to be able to choose the same things that I like, but sometimes -- as I look at things age with time -- the photos they did pick seem to be better than I had originally estimated.
