New on my shelf Yashica T4

A friend of mine is a dedicated analogue point and shooter. He likes the Yashica T4 because it has a powerful flash and is priced well if you compare it to the titanium point and shooters. I was looking for a little P&S with good flash because I like that old fashioned look off a flashed face and a dark background.

So the pro’s:

It is small, it is fast. I did not expect a P&S to focus that fast. You just press the shutter, it shoots. It is really difficult to get a bad pic with this machine. It has a damn fine Carl Zeiss 35mm Tessar and a good auto-program.

The cons:

It is made of the thinnest plastic I’ve ever seen. If you drop it it is a goner. Because Terry Richarson shoots a yashica T4 some people think it is a collectors item and they charge you 200 euros for it. You can find it for 100 if you look carefully and if you’re lucky on a flea market you’ll pay 10. It looks real cheap.

The challenge:

You have very little control ober this camera. Basically you only have the automode, you can force off and on the flash and that’s it. There is no EV +/- dial, it will always choose the right exposure and it will focus. I like underexposed shots, I like badly focussed shots and those are difficult with this all automatic wonder. There is an AF lock. If you focus on something and keep the shutter pressed halfway down, you can move the camera and it will shoot without refocussing. This is not easy because the shutter is realy responsive. When I put my big fingers on the shutter, it just fires. No halfway down for me :(
According to the manual a non DX-coded film will be set on 100. So I tried to fool the camera by taping the codeon a roll of Velvia 50. The camera would not load the roll until I removed the tape.

Fuji Velvia 50, flash forced on.

So it’s a good little camera but not an ideal lomo-shooters.

See me imitating Terry Richardson. it is ridiculous, that’s the way I like it

You shaved your head and face for a videoblog...?!? Man, you're crazier than I thought!!! ;-) Still, it's definitely the most entertaining blog I've ever seen on this site, so it was worth it! (For me at least - I don't know what your wife will think about it...;-) Keep up the great work my friend - this community needs cats like you...!

@buckshot Actually the shaved version is the regular me. I am just lazy and only shave when my wife complains. The part with the moustache she wont like. I took a polaroid.
