Forever Asleep

Now that I've shot these photos I think I can leave this place alone for a while. The spring thaw will be gruesome.

Is this a Canadian thing? Taking shots of deceased animals. Because @toonboy7 has done it too and is also in Canada.

@alburnkat It makes me uncomfortable even being there but once I'd found the nest, I felt compelled to memorialize them forever.

When I was 15 were playing in the woods of Western Pennsylvania. I accidentally kicked a small raccoon as we crossed paths during a game of hide and go seek. (ya, 15 and hide & go seek, it was farm country and we were trying to stay occupied) It rolled, yelped and kept running. I was terrified because growing up they always warned us about rabies and wild animals. I kept running for a while after that. A few years early a very large adult was raiding our chicken and rabbit coops. We thought it was a fox till we saw it, nearly the size of a medium dog! We found out it was raiding several farms over the years and got large off the heists I guess somebody caught it shortly after because it stopped a month later or it moved on.

@neanderthalis Thanks for the story! My backyard as a kid had all kinds of critters visiting. I loved to observe them. Nothing wrong with hide and seek. I always think about Monty Python's worldwide hide and seek finals skit and start laughing when I'm waiting a long time to be found.

Sorry if I over shared. :) Seeing those sorts of animals brings back vivid memories. We do not have much for forest wildlife in Hawaii. Mostly birds and feral pigs.

putting those stories aside, it is a stunning picture. look at the black! it is so rich and super noise free. for me, this is more artistic than feeling sad.

@sebastianbae Thanks. The histogram adjustment in the scanning process helps find a nice shadow point.
