Scanner Frustration CanoScan 8800F

I have acquired a Digitaliza so I can finally scan negs with sprocket holes. However, when I do things are not as I hoped.

I have set the scanner software, as far as I can tell, not to colour correct at all. When I scan with the plastic negative holder that came with it I get the above. If I use the digitaliza I get:

That very blue cast should not be there. The photo above is much more accurate. Anyone know why or found a good tutorial for the CanoScan software?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Here is my latest attempt, with help from @ohpleasedontgo. This looks better, but now I wonder if I shot it with a colour gel and that the lab may have colour corrected my scans without telling me?

Therefore I am going to shoot a roll through my lubitel, in natural light with no mucking about. See what happens when I self scan those.

Thanks so far for your help!

SOLUTION. When testing something, use a neg you know was made normally. Here is my lubiken test shot. Light leak aside, a perfect scan I’d say!

Oh! I opened the page an hour ago and I didn't refresh it so I haven't seen the message from @ohpleasedontgo hahahaha that's why I repeat the solution... sorry !

I am also using CanoScan software and had the same problem first. What you should do is first select the area of the picture without the sprockets. Then click on define. And only after that select the whole area including the sprockets.

I have another scanner (epson v500) I can tell you how I do with it... it will work for you only if you can select the area of the photo by yourself. Can you?

If you can, you must select a square WITHOUT the sprockets, so in this square, you adjust the colours normally. Once you get the photo ok with the colours, you take the square and move the edges now including the sprockets. This way, the adjust are the same and the photo doesn't become blue.

The colour blue is because the colour settings adjust of the scanner "set" the "black" of the sprocket as the "black" of the balance and so, it changes the real colours.

I hope you've understood me, maybe it's hard to explain, I can search a video, I think that I had one in my favorites... If I find something, I'll tell you !

@ohpleasedontgo I've tried that now, after a bit of searching it's done on the exposure setting. But nothing happens.

Mhm, I am not home right now, but I will try to make a screenshot of how I do it later. I accidently upgraded my software with an spanish update once, so everything is in spanish now and I don't know exactly what the corresponding english settings are :D But a screenshot should help I guess...

mhm weird...but if you look at the colours of the numbers and stripes around the sprockets of the third one it seems that the colour is pretty accurate in this one. So I guess the first one indeed was colour corrected. I am curious how your lubitel shots will look like. Hope that it works! :)

try to adjust the colour manually. use scanner driver instead of auto scan. by the way, you can save money actually rather than buying the digitaliza, but if you have bought it, then it's ok. :)

@ohpleasedontgo got the roll back from the lubitel and scanned it and guess what - that colour cast had been corrected by the lab - your advice worked perfectly. Goes to show and experiment is worthless without a control.
