The Glentleiten Open Air Museum is the largest of its kind in Southern Bavaria. It provides detailed insight into the everyday life of the people of Upper Bavaria, their construction and building culture and their working environment. More than 60 original buildings have been conserved and translocated together with their equipment to be restored in the midst of a landscape cultivated to conform to historic patterns.

We've had so much snow this year. It's been beautiful but unfortunately hard to photograph because the temperatures have been sub zero, which makes my little cameras cranky. One day it warmed up to the 20's (fahrenheit) and while the snow was falling I donned my winter coat, grabbed my new Diana (courtesy of the very generous @clickiemcpete) and headed out to Lincoln Park to take some snow shots. Some of the photos have a smeared texture to them but that's just the snow falling on the lens creating snow filter of sorts. I kinda like the effect! Ah . . . and I had this song in mind when I shot this album http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cNeXWpTVlo Gotta love some Hazy Shade of Winter!

It might have been the hardest photographic conditions ever in the polar station of Ny Ålesund. Because of the polar night in November, there was only glimpses of light around noon, Other than that only darkness and the lights of the buildings in the worlds northermost settlement. I was taking my free saturday to walk around and to take shots. As i was limited to only little weight on my trip, I had to decide which cameras i can take. For panoramics I decided for the XPAN and the very wide wide wide 30mm lens. Because I knew I had to expose the hell out of the frame, with swing lenses you just have a limit on exposure times. For the landscape picture I might have exposed the picture up to 4 minutes. But it was cold and windy and did I mention cold? So I had set the distance, the frame and aperture in darkness. I used a gorillapod with a release cable and because of the low level and the darkness I had to assume and guess the distance to the objects. I was a game of trial and error. I learned a lot. I am grateful!

Had an amazing time camping with my family at the Yosemite National Park. It's becoming a yearly thing for us and each time we go, we discover more wondrous things about it. This time around, we hiked 8 or more miles (mostly uphill) just to see and take a dip in an alpine lake above the mountains, discovered a beautiful and clear creek running through the meadows, met some prairie dogs running around in the wild, and had an exciting up-close encounter with a mule deer. It was truly an amazing weekend. I came back to LA 5 shades tanner but I felt so great! I could live in that park forever. // These are photos from the creek and another alpine lake, which is more accessible than the one we hiked up to and the one place in the park that I would always come back to see - here's one I've taken from it almost a year ago: http://www.lomography.com/homes/blueskyandhardrock/albums/1887151-the-lioness-adventures/photos/16969962.

  • Dom Knigi ("House of the Book")

    shared by neja on 2016-09-09

St. Petersburg's largest and most famous bookshop, Dom Knigi ("House of the Book") occupies one of the most beautiful buildings on Nevsky Prospekt - the Singer Company Building, an innovative and richly decorated Art Nouveau masterpiece. The site at the intersection of Nevsky Prospekt and the Griboedov Canal, opposite Kazan Cathedral, was the location of the riding school of Duke Ernst Johann von Biron, the powerful favourite of Empress Anna. When this building burnt down, it was replaced by three-storey residential building, where St. Petersburg's first photographer, Sergey Levitskiy, had his workshops in the 1850s. In 1902, the plot of land was bought for a million rubles by Singer Manufacturing Company, the world-famous maker of sewing machines.Dom Knigi, the main state bookseller, was opened in the building in 1938. During the Siege of Leningrad, the shop continued to operate even when a bomb was dropped on the neighbouring building, shattering all of Dom Knigi's windows and flooding the storage rooms. It was only in the winter of 1941 that the shop, lacking electricity and heating, closed temporarily. The building was closed in 1948 to repair war damage, and again for restoration in the middle of the last decade. Otherwise, it has been St. Petersburg's most popular bookshop for over seventy years.
