The Art of Sfumato

Think like a painter and unleash your inner da Vinci to create atmospheric and dreamy portraits.

The sfumato technique is a Renaissance art method used to soften the transition between colors that avoids a harsh line. We talked about the technique in a magazine article back in 2018 that also features a gallery that captures its very essence.

For this LomoMission, we’re challenging you to recreate paintings that used the sfumato technique with your pinhole cameras to achieve a naturally ethereal ambiance, and to celebrate World Pinhole Photography Day!

Submit a sfumato inspired pinhole photo and get a chance to win a 10% discount code for our Online Shop! Each participant can enter up to 10 photographs shot on film. This competition will run until May 1, 2024. Good luck!
