Befana Befana!

Befana Befana!

"the 6th January, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates the feast of the Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ. In many countries this feast is also called the feast of the Three Kings, although it has been taught that those three men who paid homage to the Holy Child were not kings but Magis or Wise Men from the East. It is also the 12th night and to many this means time to take the decorations down but to Italians this day is also the Feast of the "Befana". In the Italian tradition, this old lady called Befana is very much like Santa Claus; she delivers gifts and candies to children on the night between the 5th and 6th January. This tradition dates back to the 13th century. She is a very old lady dressed up in rags and carries a broom and though she may look like a witch , her story is a touching one." quotes from http://craftysusie.blogspot.com
