The Next stop is...
Meant to represent a cross social section of a super cities like New York City packed with people from all over the world who live with frenetic rytms, sometimes obsessed, and that, despite everything, it never stops .. Indeed, from here the title. To do so I decided to choose my subjects in the “Subway”, as people who lives here calls it, and specifically I decided to follow a single line: the line “L”, which is the one leading from the 8th Avenue in Manhattan up to the East Brooklyn, overlooking a stretch in Queens, as along the border between the two areas. This line is precisely because it does every day and every night carrying a lump of diverse people and people who interact, minimally, between them. Infact, it is very curious to see how Americans in general are much more reserved, I mean that they respect the privacy of others, compared to Europeans. The decision to follow and walk every day and night this line allowed me to literally go through the city, splitting it in two, and meet all kinds of people, culture, language, religion etc.. and compare them each other. I have also decided to represent this social split within the New York metropolitan because I think that it is the symbol of perpetual motion, frenzy, lust, greed and insane agitation common, in fact, staying open 24/7 itself, never stop, it perfectly interprets this status. In addition, it was my desire to remain anonymous and not be noticed, so I colud be able to capture the true essence of the people and moments, so I put aside my beloved SLR camera and I opted for my iPhone, because it allowed me to pretend to be busy writing a message or something like that. In conclusion, this exercise allowed me to highlight an heterogeneous society, with people who are distant from each other in habits and customs, but they can live together and face the difference every day in a constructive manner by creating the magic of New York.
