At first I didn't really understand what you meant by looking like digital instagram without the sense of details on the pics, because I was not shocked by the original sample you put on the B&W album last night, but after looking at all the originals, now I see. Great pictures though!

@sweetyyydreams: Glad it makes more sense now. The best demonstration of what I meant by the lab scans lacking detail is shot number 9 in this album. In the greyscale version you can clearly see a woman going up the escalator, whereas in the original lab version you don't even see her at all. Thanks for the likes!

oh yeah, these suck. I got the same sort of results from the lab with my first roll of velvia. Why do they do this when scans of the negs reveal the images are indeed beautiful? At the time, I thought to do the same thing you are doing - posting the good and bad for comparison. I wish I had, but those foul prints went into the trash. You need to treat yourself to a scanner. But then scanning is a whole other addiction...

@vivi: Yes, I was pretty disappointed to see these magenta monstrosities. I was of course expecting colour shifts, but not like this. I have another four rolls of 120 Velvia to use, and with the demise of Ektachrome will likely be buying more, but will probably use them in my Lubitel and develop them in E-6 instead. Either that or finally invest in a decent scanner, as you suggest. Do you have a scanner recommendation for me? I've read up on them quite a bit, but am still undecided, so I'd appreciate any advice from an experienced user.

I like these but I think I like them because they're not mine. If mine came back like this I don't think I would be pleased at all. Does that make any sense because it makes no sense to me reading it back. I know what I mean anyway!

@weleasewoger72: I hear you loud and clear: It means they suck! I'm not too pissed off though, as I shot a roll of Neopan Acros with my Nikon F50 on the same trip, and I'm pretty confidant they'll come back from the lab in better shape than this. Fingers crossed... ;-)

@lazybuddha: Thanks a lot! I guess I'm just saying that I don't like how Velvia cross-processes. My idea of a successful x-pro is more like the Provia shot here: http://www.lomograph(…)os/16194308 See the difference...? The natural colours of that one have all been enhanced to dramatic effect, but they're still there, whereas this Velvia roll is all just a garish mauve monochrome that isn't remotely plausible and could easily have been achieved with a smartphone app.
