Koç

Something i have learned through globalisation ist hat market and money ist he true power and it´s smart power. If you see companies like microsoft and google you understand that they have an annual turnover which is many hundred times bigger than the budget of an african country. And it is much smoother to control people by products and money than through the force of violence. If you are a dictator you don´t receive so much good press as a compyny hat has similar power. A good example fort his ist he Koç dynasty in Turkey. The Bycantian and Ottoman empire was for hundreds of years ruled by a emperor or sultan. Nowadays Rahmi M.Koç is literally the new sultan even if he has no political Power. This guy literally owns turkey. He is doing business in food, with cars, he has several banks, he has something going on with the football team besiktas and he has great impact on the educational system. They have Koç schools and Koç universities and they have a Koç Museum. It´s about the technogical development and has a great collection of cars, ships and planes, which all, of course, are owned by the man himself.
And despite my little desire for technics it is really interesting. They display the first cars, which have been some kind of monster trains. And they show early computers. Sometimes it´s very kitchy, but this is very amusing. On the first floor, which is called the Attatürk-Floor, Koç and Attatürk are together as plastic puppets in Koç´office. I like this mix of total high class technology on the one side and cheap ego-fishing on the other. Of course there is also the original train of the last sultan displayed, so there will be no misunderstanding, who is the new ruler of the land! Also interesting are nice fish-sculptures at the waterside, i instantly fell in love with them.
If you are in Ankara you should check out the local Koç Museum and don´t be surprise
