Doubles With Awesomesther

Singapore + Philippines.

When awesomesther posted something in her blog inviting other lomographers to do doubles with her, I sent her a message. It was a timely invitation as I would be visiting Singapore with my family for a few days. We both agreed to meet up in Bugis and swap films. She even accompanied me, along with my two friends, in visiting Haji Lane, an artsy fartsy district in the Kampong Glam neighbourhood.

I was very delighted to receive a roll of Provia 100F from her. I have never used this slide film before, and thanks to her, I finally could try it out!

The first layer was shot by Esther using her Olympus XA2. She took random shots of Singapore – its cityscapes, buildings, lights, temples, people, etc. When I came back to the Philippines, I loaded the roll in my Diana Mini during our summer trip to Splash Island, the biggest waterpark in our country. This resort is located in Southwoods Ecocentrum in Binan, Laguna, only about 15 minutes from where I live.

I had no expectations whatsoever when I used the film, but the element of surprise was there for sure! Who doesn’t like the sense of anticipation you get with double exposures?

When I got the roll from the lab, the results really amazed me. I never thought Provia could produce such vivid, saturated colors, quite similar from what is obtained with Velvia. The different nuances of yellows, greens and blues look beautiful. Some shots with imprecise framing and different backgrounds are marvellous to look at.
