Orwo is a huge photolab which is low priced. The processing works with sending your films.

Orwo started already in 1909 and is located in Wolfen, Saxony-Anhalt. In the beginning they even produced their own films. Since 2009 they have a second photolab in Wiesbaden – Orwo is one of the biggest photolabs in Germany. Their very own brands are “PixelNet” and since the end of 2009 “Foto Quelle”.

At PixelNet you can order a shippingbag for free. With this shippingbag you can send them up to 6 rolls of film back. It is always good to also list the films you packed and what you want them to do with them. Add that note to the package and avoid therefore, that they don’t know what to do with special films and send it back unprocessed. Although I once wrote something wrong and they wrote me an email to ask what they should do with it! As soon as they get your rolls, you get an confirmation email. After a couple of days, up to 4-7, you get another email that everything is done and the films are on their way back to you.

The only bummer is that the negatives come in a small box which might not fit in every letterbox, so you have to be at home to receive the package. With your pictures you also get the invoice. You have two weeks to pay them via bank transfer. To the processing costs they add 2, 59 for the shipping.

Conclusion: I am really happy that I discoverd Orwo. It’s a good opportunity if you can’t spend a lot of money for your processing. Of course when it’s supposed to be processed fast or the film is really special I also go to the small photolab nearby, but for everything else Orwo is just fine.
