DIY Camera Pistol Grip Using a Jump Rope

Want a cheap and lightweight stability solution to add to your camera bag arsenal? Buy or repurpose a jump rope and you'll have what you need!

With low light analogue photos, we need all the stability we can get. We can’t just erase the shot we took and do a do-over, so we have to get it right the first time around. When lighting conditions aren’t favorable, you’ll need a tripod or a monopod. The luxury of always having one handy is a dream we all have, so we have to content ourselves with a DIY pistol grip made out of a jump rope handle!

  • Jump rope
  • 2 Nuts and bolts/tripod thread
  • Craft knife
  • Super glue

  1. Work up a sweat with the jump rope
  2. Once you’re done, cut the rope as close to the handle as possible.
  3. Attach the tripod thread to the end of the handle and you’re done!
