Presenting: A 3D Printed Lenshood

3D printed camera gear is coming along slowly but steady. The newest innovation that's been making the rounds are 3D printed lens hoods!

Unless you’re J.J. Abrams, too much lens flare is something you’d like to avoid. Ward off those wayward streaks of light to make sure that you get the photo as you intended. The best way to do this with cameras is to have a lens hood, which is usually packaged together with your lenses. In the event that it doesn’t come with one or you lost it, don’t worry as you can use a 3D printer to make your own!

What’s great about 3D printed lens hoods is that there are plenty of colors and designs to choose from. Of course you’d ideally want a flat black one for your photos, but we’ve never been really a fan of rules now, are we?

I've actually seen quite a few lens hoods showing up on the 3D printing sites for cameras and lenses who's originals are rare or expensive. I think it's a great idea and adding the cool textures and designs to them makes something normal into something really cool. :D
