LC-Wide External Viewfinder: Go Close or Go Home!

Learn to see what a 17mm Minigon ultra-wide angle lens sees in this Tipster!

One of the most exciting cameras that Lomography has ever produced is the one and only Lomo LC-Wide. Maybe every lomo-lover here already knows how awesome this camera is, but if you haven’t owned the Lomo LC-Wide yet, let me tell you that it’s all about “Go Close or Go Home!”

Perhaps if you shoot some landscapes or panorama photos, this quote wouldn’t be much problem. But, if you love shooting portrait, i think you have to understand how close this camera needs to be with its object.

First of all, as we all know, Lomo LC-Wide has a 17mm Minigon Ultra-Wide Angle lens, which makes it the world’s widest auto compact 35mm camera. The closest focus would be 0.4 m. That means, you can shoot a selfie easily, and with no out of focus!

The problem is sometimes we forget how wide it is when we shoot portrait of someone or something else. We may feel it’s close enough, but when we see the result, the object looks so far from the camera. Why does it happen? Well, it’s because the viewfinder of Lomo LC-Wide only covers about 80% of the real image. Kinda tricky, huh?

You can fix this by understanding the camera itself. When you are familiar to this parallax error, it would be much easier of course. But, the easiest way to overcome the parallax error is to purchase the Lomo LC-Wide Instant Kit!

When you buy the Instant Kit, you will get two things. One is the correction lens, that would be useful if you want to use your LC-Wide with an Instant back. And the second thing is the External Vewfinder. The External Viewfinder will show you what a 17mm lens sees. It will truly help you to compose a perfect image, and of course to understand how close you should be when shooting with this camera! Yay!

So, there you go, a quick tipster from me to fix the little parallax error in Lomo LC-Wide. Have fun shooting!

Or use the correction lens to attach filters, like @sandravo , and the external viewfinder to see above these filters!
