Tipster: Organize Your Analog Hardware

Here are some of my tips to help you get started in organizing your Lomo stuff.

Hello!

Well, I’ve been collecting quite a few cameras, film spools, negatives and canisters over the years of shooting film. I decided to take action to organize them before it gets too much to handle.

Half of what I have accumulated over the past few years.

Here are some tips for keeping your camera and photo stuff organized.

1. Use durable containers

Keep all your camera stuff, unused film and flash accessories in a large plastic container. Also throw in some of those silica gel packs inside to prevent moisture from building up. For cameras that I always use, I placed them on a shelf that’s easily accessible and in view.

If you’re into black and white developing, place all your chemicals and other paraphernalia (such as changing bag and tank) in another container.

2. Label everything

It’s good to put labels so that you’d know what’s inside of the containers. I also labeled all of my processed films with those little sticky notes indicating what camera I used.

3. Store your negatives properly

Since I’m organizing film negatives for three people (me, my brother and my fiance). I decided it’s best to keep track of them by putting them into individual film negative sleeves for easy archival. I also labeled them indicating the shooter, the film and the camera used.

Thanks for reading!

Would anyone know where I could buy A4 archival sleeves in Hong Kong? The ones my photo lab gives me are cheap and not the right size. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
