Magical World of Holga & LC-A in Long Exposure

Holga 120GN & LC-A are "Merlin's" best spells.

First of all, I would love to share some tips on using the Holga 120GN for long exposure shots. This is my first time using Holga 120GN with Kodak TMAX 400 Expired. And I was stunned by its outcome. A friend of mine named Idham Qamil is the one who lent me his Holga, and at first I was a bit scared on the post-production. But, he taught me on how to get the best exposure with Holga, using B (Bulb Mode). So, he gave me these few things to try on:

1. Holga 120GN
2. Kodak TMAX 400 Expired
3. Shutter Release Cable
4. Bracket (to be used with the cable)
5. Lightmeter
6. Tripod

Step one: Set-up your tripod and Holga120GN along with the Shutter Release Cable

Step two: Check the ambient light with the lightmeter (e.g.: Holga’s aperture is f/8 for Cloudy and f/16 for Sunny) I chose f/8 and the shutter speed was approximately about 5 to 8 sec. Depending on the lighting condition at the time.

Step three: Make sure your subject is in total freeze. Slight movement will make your photo a bit blurry. But still, you will get good results.

Here I attached some examples. The last photo was the photo taken while the subject moved, so it is a bit blurry.

And here are some photos that I took with LOMO LC-A and Agfa CT Precisa 100, not much different on the techniques, but for LC-A, you cannot use a shutter release cable, as it does not have any holes to put in the cable. Only LC-A+ does have it on its shutter. Therefore, I just set-up a tripod and lock my LC-A onto it. And I press the shutter until the second ‘click’, that is when you know that the shutter finally closes. Here are some of the miraculous shots that I got:

I hope my tipster would be able to help you in doing your upcoming shoots and projects. LOMO ON! Share Lomo Love every one!
