San Francisco's BelAir Review

It's officially in stores! The Belair has finally landed at the Lomography store in San Francisco. One of our Lomo staff members, Joe was rewarded the right to be the first of the staff to test the camera and write about his experience using it. If you missed out on pre-ordering your Belair, now's your chance to see the camera in person and pick it up in stores. Please welcome the new addition to the Lomography camera family...

So the new Lomography Belair came in to work and I was the first person to jump on it! I was really excited to hear about a semi-auto 6×12 camera, and even more excited that the company I work for is making it! After loading it with Lomography 200 chrome X-pro film I decided to head out and shoot some night time long exposure shots…

As you can see by the first few shots, I forgot to advance to the second frame, as I had never shot 6×12 before. What I got was some weird overlapped image, but they still looked pretty cool to me! I’m thinking of doing a series of carefully planned out right angle overlap exposures. The Belair to me is like a combination of the LC-A+ and the Diana F+ plastic lens, but also an auto mode… I like that the ISO goes down to 50 for some extra fun with Lomography Redscale film! When I used the 6×6 format, I had a really fun time with it, the color that the camera can produce when using the 200 x-pro is awesome!

I started to have some real fun when I used the 6×12 mask properly and went out and about to a few bars with my buddy Jeremy teaming the camera up with a tripod and bulb exposure is really fun and it produces soft and wide shots.

If you are interested in panoramic medium format photos, I would definitely suggest the Belair. It’s also great for flash photography! I hope I can have some more time with it in the coming weeks to really perfect my night time urban landscape long exposures.

Can't wait to get a blair of my own. I love the fold out bellows design.
