How to do macro photo with your not-macro lens
What you need
- a single lens reflex
- a lens
1. Remove the lens from the camera , flip it and put it in front of the mirror. You have to hold the lens with your hand or you can buy an inversion ring.
2. Leave the aperture as open as possible.
3. To put on focus you have not to turn the ring but you have to get closer and get away from the object.
4. The depth of field is very reduced so be careful on choosing the point to focus on
I’ve tried this technique with two lenses: yashica 28mm ML f 2.8 e 50mm ML f 1.9.
With the 28mm I can get closer to the subject, with the 50mm I have to keep a little more distant.

I just received an inversion ring, it seems very cool! I can get fill the frame with 1 or 2cm :)
But I don't totally agree with the wide aperture: The fact to be close makes shadow so we need more light, but the depth of field is so small that if possible, it's better to reduce the shutter speed (but you need a tripod your subject should not move, unfortunately.
So using high speed film could be the solution, if you don't mind the grain.
